California’s Future. California’s Choice.

Put California’s future back in Californians’ hands.

California is one of the world’s largest economies, yet the decisions that shape its future are too often made by people Californians never elected. CalExitNow is a lawful, peaceful movement to change that, beginning with a real resolution in the State Legislature.

Where the movement is, and what it thinks

This is not a coastal project

Every county with a supporter in it is lit. Every mark is a ZIP code somebody signed up from. We show reach rather than numbers, because how many people signed up in a small county is their business.

Supporters in every one of California’s 58 counties. Each mark is a ZIP code.

The same survey found 71% say California would be better off with autonomous status, and put the direct ballot question, where the split was 44% yes to 54% no. The distance between what Californians already believe and how they would vote today is the work. How we read the polling.

The movement

Who we are

This is the home of a serious and growing movement built on one clear principle. California’s future should be decided by Californians.

CalExitNow.com exists to advance California sovereignty by lawful and democratic means.

We are building a public movement on one proposition: California has both the right and the responsibility to examine its own future.

We are citizens, organizers, advocates, policy thinkers and civic leaders from across the state, united by one conviction. California should have the power to examine its future and shape it according to the will of its people. More about who we are.

A society this size should govern itself

California is one of the most powerful and productive societies in the world.

It is a global economic force. It leads in technology and agriculture, and it carries the institutions and the revenue base a country of this size requires.

Yet California remains bound to a national political structure that regularly overrides its priorities. On issue after issue, Californians see decisions affecting their future shaped by institutions they do not control and political forces that do not reflect their democratic will.

Self-government means California setting its own course: its own policy, its own institutions, answerable to the people who live here.

Sovereignty is not rhetoric. It is self-government.

In the press

The case has been argued in the national press.

Eight items, each linked, dated and quoted on the coverage page. They include an outlet editorially opposed to most of what California stands for, and the report of the last campaign missing its signature deadline.

Making the case

Why a name on a list counts

Private agreement has never moved a legislature. Public names do.

CalExitNow.com needs Californians who are ready to stand up publicly, organize locally, contribute materially, and help build the civic force required to move this effort forward.

Names on a public list are what make a legislative ask credible, and a district with organized supporters in it is the only kind a legislator has reason to answer.
